International Cultural Workshop: “Rediscovering the Cultural Heritage of Upper Svaneti”

 

The Institute of Art History and Theory at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is organizing an international cultural workshop in Mestia titled “Rediscovering the Cultural Heritage of Upper Svaneti.” In connection with the project, a presentation was held at Tbilisi State University. Darejan Tvaltvadze, dean of the Faculty of Humanities of TSU, representatives of the TSU Institute of Art History and Theory, and workshop participants attended the event.

The workshop brings together twelve young researchers and four senior researchers from twelve universities around the world: Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia), Apollon Kutateladze Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (Georgia), Ilia State University (Georgia), Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film Georgia State University (Georgia), University of Pennsylvania (USA), University of Michigan (USA), Rutgers University (USA), Florida State University (USA), Syracuse University (USA), Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London (United Kingdom), Jagiellonian University (Poland), Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany).

The ten-day international workshop gives young researchers the opportunity to visit the cultural heritage sites in Upper Svaneti, participate in field research, and engage in scientific discussions. This provides the best opportunity not only to familiarize themselves with the local cultural heritage, but also to establish and further deepen professional relationships.

Partners of the International Cultural Workshop include the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, the Art History Department at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and the Historical and Ethnographic Museum of Svaneti. The workshop is implemented with the financial support of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia.
